The Hollister Planning and Building Department is
responsible for a number of areas. We are your source for
information and permits for building construction and
remodeling, pool or deck installation, subdivision
requirements, and zoning requirements just to name a few.
Call us with your questions and we'll try to answer them
over the phone, or we'll come out and take a look and work
through your concern.
Hollister has adopted several model codes as minimum
standards for construction within the city. The codes the
city uses are: the 2006 International Building Code, 2006
International Fire Prevention Code, 2006 International
Mechanical Code, 2006 International Plumbing Code, 2006
International Property Maintenance Code, the 2005 National
Electric Code (NEC), 2006 International Residential Code for
One & Two Family Dwellings, and the Private Sewage Disposal
Code 1997. The Building Department performs plan reviews and
reviews permit applications for compliance with the Codes.
Permit fees are collected by the City Clerk’s office.
Inspections on site are also done to assure that
construction is in compliance with the code requirements.

The City Planning Department is responsible for ensuring
that development, new business, and new construction meets
the requirements of the City Zoning Code. The City has the
following general zone districts - Commercial, Residential,
Industrial and Historic. There are further divisions within
each category. The Planning Department reviews all building
permit applications and business license applications to
further ensure that the property the request is for is zoned
for the requested use. Community growth is being encouraged
with some zoning controls to benefit the present and future
citizens of our city. |
